How to create a new product listing on Amazon seller central

Amazon is the biggest online eCommerce marketplace in the world. It welcomes numerous selling models, wholesale model, retail model, used item selling model, dropshipping model, retail and online arbitrage model, and private label model.

It creates confusion among new Amazon sellers how to create listing on Amazon seller central. But, do not worry, today I will clear all your confusions.

There are two types of Amazon listing:

 

 Catalog Listing

Catalog listing is a process of selling a product already available in Amazon catalog. You do not need to make listing from scratch, add yourself as a seller on the exiting listing.

  • For brand retailers, online arbitrage, dropshipping, retail arbitrage, and used items.

How to check if a product is already listed on Amazon?

Search Amazon catalog to check if the product is already listed on Amazon or not. You can search the listing by product name, brand name, or UPC number (if you know it). If you find, you do not need to make a new listing then. Sell on existing listing.

Step 1

Put the cursor over Inventory, and click on “Add a product”. Search the product by name or ASIN/UPC code.

Step 2

Amazon will show you the product, if already listed on Amazon. Select the product condition,and click “Sell product” button.

Step 3

Add pricing detail, inventory, and Fulfillment type details. Hit “Save and list”.

 

New product listing

New product listing is a process of adding new product to Amazon not available in its catalog.

  • For brands, handmade products, private label products, and those items not listed on Amazon.

Requirements:

UPC/EAN number: UPC stands for unique product code. It is an unique ID associated to a particular product for easy identification.  For new listing creation, Amazon asks you for a UPC/EAN code.

Step 1

To list a product on Amazon, one needs to login to the seller central. After login,  drag the cursor on Menu “Inventory”.

Step 2

For single listing creation, click “Add a product”.

Amazon is a home place of millions of products. So, if you are reselling a product, you can look for existing listing available on Amazon. Type a product name in the search box, if you finds the exact match product, select it and start selling on Amazon.

To list a new product, click on “I’m adding a product not sold on Amazon”.

Choose the right category and subcategory to proceed.

 

Step 3

Once you selected the category, the seller central will take you listing creation page. Move the toggle bar “Advanced view” to right side. It will visible additional sections.

Vital Info

Start with the first section “Vital Info”. Here, you need to add product title, brand, color etc information required to list products on Amazon.

Also, you will need a UPC/EAN/ASIN number to list a product to Amazon catalog. You can purchase UPC or EAN numbers from GS1.

Add variations

The next section is “Variations”. If you are selling a product that is available in different colors, shape, and sizes.So, you will need to define it in the Variations section. Do remember, each variation is unique and you will need individual UPC/EAN number for every variation.

Add product price, condition, and selling type

The next section is offers. Here you will add product price, item condition, inventory quantity, and fulfillment method (Amazon FBA or Amazon FBM).

Add images

Add 1000×1000 or higher resolution images of your product. It is mandatory to add at least one image though you can add up to 7 images.

Switch to Description section. Here you can add product description and high key product features.

Search Terms

Amazon allows you to add product keywords in the backend section. This is one of the best Amazon product listing optimization techniques. It will not visible to the user on listing page but the algorithm will index it for visibility on Amazon. You can add up to 255 characters.

For e.g.: A helmat seller will add keywords like motorcycle scooter security for men women durable vehicle two wheeler etc.

More details

The last section is More Details. Here you can add product dimension, package dimension, item weight, package weight, launch date and warranty details etc.

 

Once you fill all the mandatory (red highlighted input fields) details, Amazon will active “Save and Finish”. Hit the button. Within 10-15 minutes, your listing will be visible in the manage inventory.
